Goldstone

It is believed that Goldstone was discovered in
the early seventeenth century by Italian monks,
and it sometimes goes by the alternative name Monks’ Gold.
Its golden glister, however, comes not from gold
but from copper crystals trapped in a vitreous stone.

Perhaps because of its comparatively recent discovery,
Goldstone has no mystic or therapeutic powers attributed to it -
but even so it makes a beautiful piece of jewellery.
